Case 1: Fix Windows issues caused by the loss or damage of system files.

If you have lost or damaged some of the system files, there might be some system issues such as Windows fails to work, system crashes or Windows update failures. In this case, you can try System File Checker (SFC.exe) or Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) to recover the system files.

Ø  Step 1: text “Command Prompt” and “Run as administrator”;

Ø  Step 2: Use Deployment Image Servicing and Management Tool (network required) or System File Checker Tool to solve the problem.

Input “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth” and hit Enter;

Continue inputting “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” to fix the existing issues. It will connect Windows Update Server to download the system files and replace the damaged ones.

SFC: System File Checker Tool, short for SFC, is the tool that uses WinSxS documents to repair system issues. No requirement about the networks and it’s faster to finish the recovery.

Simply inputting “sfc/scannow” and hit “Enter”, waiting until it finishes the process and close the window. SFC will help recover problematic system issues automatically.

Your Windows 10 system is allowed to go back to the previous version within 10 days after you have made a Windows Update. This usually happens when users encounter some system issues or just don’t like the new version. It will delete the changes after the update, but your personal files will not be influenced.

Just meet the following conditions you can go back to the previous version:

c.       Remember your Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 password if you have logged in;

d.      Prepare a USB driver to upgrade to Windows 10 if you have used it.

Note: If the system goes back to Windows 8.1, some Windows Apps such as Mail or People may fail to work. You can only reinstall them from Microsoft Store for better use.

Ø  Step 1: Open Windows Settings – Update & Security – Recovery;

Ø  Step 2: Click “Get started” below “Go back to the version of Windows 10”;

Since it’s harder to fix BSOD issues, you may need to make some preparations first before trying any solutions.

a. Prepare a USB Disk with larger than 8G memories left, download Windows 10 on a normal computer and run it;

Download link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Waiting for the restore result and checking if you can successfully boot into the system.

Solution 2: Startup Repair

Startup Repair is another Windows recovery tool and it can fix some boot errors such as system files losing or damaging, which causes the system fails to boot with a black screen.

image.png

Note: Startup Repair can only recovery some issues like what we have mentioned the system files losing or damaging. It can’t fix hard drive problems or prevent virus attacks. Startup Repair is not designed for recovering Windows installing problems or a backup tool. It can help recover personal files like photos or documents.

After clicking “Startup Repair”, it will diagnose the system and notify you when the recovery is finished.

Solution 3: Startup Settings

If your system doesn’t have startup settings when boot from USB disk, you may move to solution 4.

In startup setting, enable safe mode. It can be used to fix some blue screen of death after installing or updating drivers or software. Entering safe mode, get back or uninstall the driver or software and boot into system again.

Ø  Step 1: In WinRE, choose startup settings and restart;

image.png

Ø  Step 2: After restarting, there will be the following screen, hit F4 or 4 to enter into safe mode;

image.png

Ø  Step 3: Uninstall the latest Windows Update, uninstall the new drivers or software, and then restart your computer to see if the system runs normally.

Solution 4: Go back to the previous version (see solution 2 in case 2)

In Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE), choosing “Go back to the previous build” is the same with that in “Update & Security > Recovery” of the normal state.

Solution 5: System Image Recovery

This solution is available to use when you have created system images on your computer.

Ø  Step 3: Click “Advanced” and choose the saving place, then Next;

image.png
